Fitness Solution Highlight: Tori Enloe

Tori is a high school orchestra teacher and this week's MFS Fitness Solution Highlight.  She has been training with MFS Trainer, Kelley Bennett, for over a year and made great progress toward her fitness goals to get lean!  Most recently, Tori reduced her body fat from 27.4% to 19.6% in only 5 months!  Because Tori's success was achieved over the notoriously indulgent holiday season, you'll definitely want to read about her fitness solution!

Q:  What is your fitness solution?

A:  "I lift weights 3 or 4 days a week and try to get in five 30 minute cardio sessions each week, with one cardio session being HIIT. (Saturday morning bootcamp has been a fun way to get in the HIIT.) As for nutrition, I like to plan a week's worth of meals and snacks each Sunday. Then, I know exactly what to pack and bring with me to work each day, which helps me avoid the spontaneous chocolate or McDonald's binge. I have also found that getting enough sleep and getting into bed early enough to read for a while help me have the willpower and energy to remain consistent with exercise and nutrition."

Q:  How do you make time for fitness?

A:  "Staying fit is a priority for me, so I put exercise ahead of things like staying up at night to watch TV and sleeping late on Saturdays, which used to be what I did with those extra hours. Staying fit is a bunch of little habits that I've learned and gradually incorporate into my daily routine, so now, after 14 months of training, fitness is more my lifestyle than just an activity I participate in a few days a week. Getting up for early morning workouts used to intimidate me- I doubted that I would have enough energy to make it through the rest of the day- but now it seems like the most logical time to exercise. I feel energized and proud that I've started the day by doing something so good for myself. "

Q:  How do you afford to stay fit?

A: " Fitness is something I build in to my monthly budget. However, I haven't really had to make any sacrifices to fit it in. I used to spend about the same amount each month eating out, having more than the occasional alcoholic drink I now enjoy, and buying a lot of processed foods. Since giving up these habits, I can invest the money I've saved in my health."

Q:  How do you stay motivated & disciplined?

A:  "I think it's always important to set fitness goals and to share them with someone who'll help you stick with them. Accountability is an excellent motivator. It's uncomfortable to explain to my trainer (Kelley) why I'm not keeping up with my balance chart or to tell my workout buddy why I missed our walk, but it's so beneficial to have and to be able to give that kind of support. Sometimes thinking about how much I've grown in strength and confidence over the past 14 months motivates me to keep pushing, to see how much more I can accomplish. Having something inspirational to read helps when I'm feeling negative or unmotivated. Right now I'm reading the memoir of a woman mountain climber who summited K2. Her ability to push herself and to achieve this rare accomplishment are really inspirational to me."
